Get a notification when an Android app scan finishes

Version note: These instructions include the interface and controls in version 1.4.7.4. If an option is missing, check for an app update. Availability can differ while a release rolls out.

Trojan Scanner can notify you when an installed-app scan finishes while you use another app or the screen is locked. You do not need to keep watching the scanner.

Enable a completion notification

  1. Open Menu → Settings → Notifications.
  2. Enable Notify when scanning finishes. It is on by default.
  3. Allow Trojan Scanner notifications in Android if prompted. Android 13 and later require notification permission.
  4. Return to the main screen and tap Start. Press Home to switch apps, or lock the screen.
  5. When a result notification arrives, tap it to return to Trojan Scanner and read the final status.

Use Home to leave an active scan running. The Back button pauses the scan; a paused scan has not finished. Android can also interrupt background work, so always check whether the final result is complete.

When an alert does and does not appear

  • A completion or incomplete-result alert can appear when Trojan Scanner is in the background or the screen is locked. Read the status; an incomplete result is not a clean scan.
  • No completion alert is posted while Trojan Scanner is visible on an unlocked screen, including its Settings screen. Read the result inside the app.
  • The ongoing scan-progress notification is separate. Turning off completion alerts does not remove the notification required for background scanning.
  • This setting applies to the Start scan of installed apps. It does not add a background alert to Check an APK.

Change sound, banners and lock-screen display

In Settings → Notifications, tap Sound and notification display. This opens Android’s notification controls for Trojan Scanner; on Android versions with channels, it opens Scan results. Choose the sound, vibration and display options available on your device.

Android supplies the app name and a small notification icon. A pop-up banner or lock-screen card depends on your phone’s notification settings, Do Not Disturb and lock-screen preferences. A notification is not guaranteed to turn the screen on.

Use sound signals controls sounds inside Trojan Scanner. To change the completion alert’s sound, use Android’s notification controls instead.

Turn off completion alerts

Clear Notify when scanning finishes in Trojan Scanner Settings. The choice is saved across restarts. Scans still run, and you can return to the app to see their result.

If no notification appears

  1. Confirm the scan finished and Trojan Scanner was not visible on an unlocked screen at that moment.
  2. Check Notify when scanning finishes in the app.
  3. In Android settings, allow notifications for Trojan Scanner and, where available, enable the Scan results channel. Check whether sound, banners or lock-screen display are disabled.
  4. Check Do Not Disturb and any device-specific notification restrictions.
  5. Return to Trojan Scanner. If Android interrupted the scan, run it again; a missing alert is not proof that the scan completed.

New-version reminders are separate

Notify about new versions controls automatic update reminders inside the app. Trojan Scanner currently does not send background push notifications for new releases. See app updates and reminder settings.
