Update Trojan Scanner and its threat database

Trojan Scanner has two separate updates: the app adds features and fixes, while the threat database supplies detection rules. Updating one does not replace the other.

Update an app installed from Google Play

  1. Open Trojan Scanner on Google Play on the device where it is installed.
  2. Tap Update if Google Play offers it. If the button says Open, no update is currently offered for that device/account.
  3. Open Trojan Scanner after the update.

The app’s update action for a Google Play installation opens its Play listing. Release availability depends on Google Play review, rollout and device compatibility. An announcement of a new version does not mean every device can install it immediately.

Update a direct website installation

  1. Open the official Trojan Scanner page and check the available version.
  2. Download the official APK and open it to update the existing installation. Confirm Android’s installation prompts.
  3. If you temporarily allowed a browser or file manager to install apps, turn that permission off again when you no longer need it.

Recent direct website builds can open the official download page when an update is available. You still download and confirm installation yourself. Older installations may need one manual update first. Google Play and the website can offer different versions during a release rollout.

Do not uninstall as the first step if an update fails: uninstalling can erase local reports and settings. Record the error and contact Support if a fresh official download does not resolve it.

Control automatic update reminders

In version 1.4.7.4, open Menu → Settings → Notifications → Notify about new versions. The option is on by default. Turn it off to stop automatic update dialogs; manual updates and the available-update indicator remain usable.

The reminder appears inside Trojan Scanner when the main screen is idle. It is not a background push notification, and the scanner does not silently download or install an app update. If the setting is missing, check whether version 1.4.7.4 is available from your installation source.

To read the published changes for a Play release, open its What’s new section in Google Play. The in-app update prompt is not a full changelog.

Update the threat database

  1. Open Menu → Settings and review Update threats list. Choose automatic downloads or downloads on request.
  2. Check Download threats list: Wi-Fi only requires an active Wi-Fi connection; Always also allows mobile data.
  3. Open Menu → About → Threats List Info, tap Update Now when available, and wait for the download to finish. Check the displayed last-update time.
  4. Start a new scan to use the updated detection rules. If you are checking a downloaded APK, return to Check an APK and select the file again.

A failed download does not mean the database is current. Check your connection, network preference and free space, then retry. If the problem continues, send Support the error, app version and Android version.

Do earlier results change automatically?

A saved report describes the scan that produced it. It is not rewritten as a new verdict when definitions change. Run a fresh scan to evaluate apps against the new rules. Repeat scans can reuse information about unchanged apps, but they still apply the current detection rules.
