What Gridinsoft Web Protection for Android does

Gridinsoft Web Protection helps stop Android browsers and apps from connecting to domains included in Gridinsoft's active blocking policy. Install it on Android 10 or later, enable protection, and check its status on the Protection tab.

What it checks

When an app asks Android to look up a domain, Web Protection sends that DNS request to Gridinsoft over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The service applies the current policy and can refuse resolution for phishing, malware, scam and suspicious domains. The app uses server decisions; you do not need to download a threat database manually.

A DNS decision applies to a hostname, such as shop.example.com. It does not distinguish individual pages or files under that same name. An unblocked result does not establish that a website is safe.

What the app does not do

  • It does not scan installed apps or files, remove infections, or provide a quarantine. For Android app scanning, see Trojan Scanner.
  • It does not inspect messages, passwords or the content of HTTPS pages.
  • It does not hide your public IP address or move your connection to another country.
  • It does not guarantee coverage of connections using an app's own encrypted DNS, a direct IP address, or an address already cached by that app.

How to tell whether it is running

Look for Protection is ON in the app. A connected account, an active subscription or a past block does not by itself mean protection is currently on. Connecting and Connection interrupted need attention; they are not confirmed active protection.

Android's VPN permission is required for the DNS connection. Only one VPN can be active in the same Android profile, so Web Protection cannot operate alongside another active VPN there.
