App updates and protection policy updates are separate. New app versions change the Android interface or behavior; domain blocking decisions come from Gridinsoft's service.
Update a Google Play installation
- Open Web Protection's Google Play listing using the account and device where it is installed.
- Tap Update if offered. You can also use Play's app-management screen.
- Open Web Protection afterward and check the version in Settings and the current Protection state.
A release may reach devices at different times. If Play does not yet offer a feature described in a newer guide, use the controls in your installed version. Do not install a website APK over the Play app just to obtain a higher version number.
Update a website APK installation
- Open Settings → Check for updates. The website build also checks automatically.
- Read the offered update information and begin the download.
- Approve the Android package installation prompt. The app does not silently install updates.
- If Android requests permission to install from this source, review that permission, complete the official update, then disable the source permission again if desired.
- Reopen the app and confirm your saved access and protection status.
Update the existing installation without uninstalling it first. A normal compatible update preserves saved access. If Android rejects the package, keep the existing app and report the error; do not clear its data or force a downgrade.
Do I need to update the threat database?
There is no manual threat-database download in the Android app. Connected DNS requests use the service's active protection policy. A reputation correction can require a later service update and cache expiry before a browser behaves differently. Reinstalling the app does not accelerate that process.
